One Year

It’s been one year since we debuted our first product, the Fatyre, at Durham VegFest! I’ll never forget that day; all the preparation that went into it, all the nervousness about what the response would be, and then the thrill of people loving Fatyres and selling out!! 

I didn’t know at that time the work and learning it would take to launch a line of frozen vegan food. I did know that when I went to the grocery store there were hardly any vegan products that were as convenient as non-vegan products and I wanted to change that. This is how we came up with the mission of our company; to help people enjoy a vegan lifestyle by making delicious, convenient, and wholesome food. 

As we started to develop additional recipes we did this with one thing in mind; what is the food we craved that we missed once we switched to a vegan lifestyle. That led to our second product; cheese pies. We had this done in time for the Toronto Vegan Christmas Market and again there was great excitement about our products. We knew at this point we were on to something, and our slogan was born; “Foods you crave, made vegan”. The calzones came next, and soon we’ll be launching another exciting product!!

At the beginning of 2020 it was time to start getting serious and that is when we started working on proper packaging. Aidan, my daughter, is a graphic designer and I was blown away by the design she came up with. After a lot of work we were ready to get the packaging produced in March, and we all know what happened. We had a decision to make; either shelve the entire thing until the pandemic is over, or figure out how to launch a brand in the middle of it. I initially went with the first option but after 3-4 weeks decided to proceed. 

And here we are now after a year; finding success in several stores throughout the GTA, and about to start with a distribution company that serves Ontario. 

We’re so grateful for all the people who are supporting our brand and enjoying our products! We look forward to the day when we can be out in stores and food fairs, meeting you, and sampling our food. Until then!
